1886 P&O Captain's Silver Present
Bit of a curved ball on this one.
With Best Wishes to Capt. Orman - From The Ladies " Valetta " Christmas 1886
Captain Orman was the captain in charge of the P&O liner RMS VALETTA, she was out of London bound for Australia.
One report from The Sydney News in 1886 talks of the tradition of Christmas presents being given to all the ' Ladies ' on board, from funds collected from the gentlemen.
So it would be logical to think that the 'Ladies ' on board would have funded this magnificent case as a gift for their Captain. Thanks to my friend Alan 'The Oracle' for the research.
